Product Description
“Sweet Massalé” is a mixture of roasted spices with intense sweet aromas and sweet notes of smoked pepper. The Massale spice blend emerged in the early 18th century in Mauritius with the arrival of Indian immigrants. The botanist and colonial administrator Pierre Poivre, was the first to introduce spices (nutmeg, cloves and pepper) to Mauritius in the 18th century. He wanted to make Mauritius an island of spices and thus end the Dutch monopoly on the spice trade.
Associated with the caramelized onion, the massale releases roasted and sweet notes that combine wonderfully with sautéed shrimp, a red fish carp or a sausage rougail. It can also be used mixed with yogurt to make a delicious garnish or in desserts (donuts, rice pudding, orange salad, etc.). It is particularly appreciated with foie gras, meat or toast, with game or steak, with hot oysters, with fresh pasta.
